As I shared prior that John the Baptist had to decrease that Christ may increase. He had to relinquish his leadership so that Christ can begin to lead. John was making ready hearts and minds for Jesus. He was preaching a message of repentance and reconciliation.
There's alot to be said about John the Baptist, Jesus called him basically one of the great ones. What an honor to hear Jesus speak such words over a persons life. The question is do we believe He would or could say that about us? I believe He can if we are doing what we are called to do and do it as unto Him. I don't believe God is cheap on praising people. The bible says give honor where honor is due.
John the Baptist was discipling and what it consisted of I couldn't say but the bible does say for older (I believe it refers to mature) women train younger women and the same for men. God is into the discipleship agenda. There are creative ways we can disciple and there may be ways one never considered. Can you help a young mother how to be a more effective wife and mother, or even a single mother? Can you help them when it comes to loving their family? Can you teach a young man how to fish or play basketball? Do you know how to play an instrument is there someone who can't afford to pay and why do we take for granted those things that have been given for free? Sorry that's another message.
Do you know an elderly person who is lonely? Can you be a mentoring daughter or son to them? Do you know how to do a craft or do you have a hobby? And when I say this don't limit it to just strangers, or church members, this can be even your own family. Sometimes we forget our own families sometimes we forget those who are lost in the world. Expand your thinking.
Do you know how to paint, draw, sing? Do you know how to pray, intercede, heal the sick? Is there someone who can't join your program but can benefit from you spiritually adopting them?
Granted we need wisdom and discernment in this age with pedophiles, sexual immorality on the rise, divorce increased, people barely getting by because of unstable econonmic times, yet Jesus knew these things were going to happen yet He encourages us to make disciples. There is hope!
It's amazing how much unproductive activity we can get into and how little meaniful activity we don't get into. What do I mean? God's thoughts are not always our thoughts and His ways are not always our ways. What matters to God may not always matter to us. Oh we can do things and those things can be successful for a season, they may even be what He wants us to do, but it could be just that, a season.
My hope is just that you reflect and consider, these are unstable times and we are in a day and age where God is doing a new thing. That means it won't be church as usual, politics as usual, and even business as usual. Are you prepared for the new thing or have you become attached. Have you learned how to decrease so that Chist can increase?
